California’s POM Wonderful pomegranate seeds are welcomed into Korea through Coupang

POM Wonderful pomegranates, which flourish on thousands of leafy acres in sunny California, are now making their way into South Korean kitchens and recipes

The world has had an 8,000-year love affair with pomegranates, stretching from Mesopotamia to the Renaissance to modern-day California. Today, POM Wonderful 100% Pomegranate Juice and easy-to-eat POM arils are antioxidant superpowers. Farm fresh, they grow in Porterville, CA and near Los Angeles, thriving on 11,000 acres of ranchland.

From seed to table, POM Wonderful 100% Pomegranate Juice is natural, containing no preservatives, colors, flavors, added sugar or artificial sweeteners. Each 16-ounce bottle of POM Wonderful contains the juice of approximately four Wonderful variety pomegranates.

Through Coupang, POM Wonderful, which employs more than 250 people, is adding ready-to-eat pomegranate arils, or seeds, to the Korean market. “We have been able to reach and introduce Korean consumers to pomegranate arils which were not accessible prior to our relationship with Coupang,” said Derrick Miller, president of POM Wonderful.

Miller says consumers worldwide demand the best quality and flavor – which POM Wonderful delivers with a portfolio of juice, teas, fresh pomegranates and arils.  “This past year, our POM Arils were awarded ‘Best New Product’ in the Coupang marketplace,” said Miller, “and we look forward to maximizing this sales momentum.”

Coupang, which is based in Seattle and serves millions of customers in Korea, Taiwan, Japan and other markets, helps American businesses open direct sales channels into Asia, allowing them to grow their revenue by reaching new customers. Coupang helped drive the sale of more than $5 billion in U.S. goods and services in overseas markets in 2025, and uses innovative technology and logistics support to deliver an exceptional shopping experience for its customers.

“We’ve taken the complexity out of international shipping and sales,” noted Coupang VP Bill Anaya. “By using AI to streamline the export process, we’re making it possible for American entrepreneurs to sell globally as easily as they do locally. It’s rewarding to see brands like POM Wonderful use our platform to scale their revenue and invest back into their local communities.”

The company’s tip to freeze arils is to place them on a cookie sheet, freeze them for two hours, and then place the frozen arils into a tightly sealed plastic bag. They will keep in the freezer for up to two months.

The Korean market expects top quality, which The Wonderful Company is leaning into. “We are looking to further expand our portfolio in the Korean market,” Miller said, “with pomegranate juices, POM antioxidant teas, and other products that will be introduced in the coming year.”
