March 20, 2023, Seoul – Coupang today announced its donation campaign in collaboration with the company’s customers to support Turkish children who have been impacted by the earthquake to continue their educations without giving up on their dreams.

Coupang opened a campaign section in its win-win specialty store the “Good Shop,” and anyone interested in sponsoring Turkish children can participate. This campaign is being run together with the Embassy of Turkey in Seoul and the Korean Red Cross, enabling customers to join forces with the company to help survivors in Turkey by utilizing Coupang’s innovative logistics network.

Through this project, Coupang has committed to providing educational support to Turkish youth who are unable to get care from their parents nor the educational facilities that were destroyed by the earthquake, empowering them to continue with their studies. According to estimates by UNICEF, around 4 million children in Turkey are at risk of losing opportunities because they do not have access to education. The Turkish government is making efforts to resume education by setting up temporary schools using makeshift structures in the affected areas, with classes conducted by volunteer teachers.

Customers who want to donate school supplies to youth in Turkey can purchase items to donate from the “School Supplies to Turkey Campaign” in the Good Shop, enter the warehouse address designated by the Embassy of Turkey in the delivery address field, and have the items sent by Rocket Delivery. School supplies such as bookbags, stationery sets, sketchbooks, and crayons sent to the warehouse will be sent to the affected sites in Turkey through the embassy and delivered to students in need. Customers who participated in donations can receive donation receipts through the Korean Red Cross website.

Coupang is also providing tablet PCs that can be used for online learning by making an additional matching for every tablet PC donated by customers participating in the campaign. As such, Coupang’s Good Shop campaign is the only Turkish donation program planned by a retailer that enables customers to participate together with the company, and it is expected to help spur other innovative donation programs in the future. Coupang is also actively responding to the Turkish government’s request for school supply donations so as to protect the right to education of children impacted by the disaster. This campaign, which has been customized to meet the practical needs of its recipients, will run for two months until May 19.

Murat Tamer, the Ambassador of Turkey to Korea, said, “Turkish children who lost their parents in the earthquake are at risk of living with trauma for the rest of their lives. I hope that Coupang’s donation campaign will bring a little smile to the children’s faces. I am really grateful to Coupang and the Korean Red Cross, who conducted the campaign, and above all, the Korean brothers and sisters who participated in the campaign.”

“This donation project was planned so that Turkish children and youth can receive healing and consolation through education and find new dreams,” said a Coupang representative. “We hope that the warm support of our customers who wish to help will contribute to Turkey’s swift recovery, and we will continue to do our best to send a helping hand to those in need in the future.”
