In late May, Coupang donated hundreds of thousands of Taiwanese dollars to nursery schools to support disaster recovery following the Hualien earthquake in Taiwan. The donation followed a $2 million contribution to the Taiwan Ministry of Health and Welfare’s Disaster Relief Fund. Coupang also organized several events to help Taiwanese children make sense of natural disasters, like earthquakes.

Ryan Brown, Coupang’s Vice President of Environmental Health and Safety, traveled to Hualien, Taiwan, to introduce and read the book “If Food Rains from the Sky” to the children, along with Golden Star Awards Best Children and Youth Program Facilitator Kerr Yen-Jen, who helped the children learn how to deal with unexpected hardships and adversity.
Mr. Brown said, “As a father of four children, I am very happy to be here in Hualien today and meet so many children. I am touched by their optimism and love for life in the face of great adversity. I want to tell them in Mandarin, ” he said, pledging that Coupang will continue to work hard to protect the rights and happiness of Taiwanese children.
The director of the nursery school said that since 1979, they have been operating under limited conditions to help children grow up well, and were honored to be able to participate in Coupang’s social contribution activities.

“I really enjoyed the event that Coupang organized, and I hope we can do this again!” said 7-year-old An An, who attended the event; 9-year-old Xiaotsu said, “This is the first time I heard an English story told by an American, and I think English isn’t so hard!” and 10-year-old Aryeon expressed her joy by saying, “I’m so happy to have American and Korean toys!” In addition to the disaster recovery support, Coupang also donated baby wipes, diapers, toy, clothes and more.

Following our campaign for children, we also visited the Catholic Social Services Foundation’s Good Shepherd orphanage for charity. Through the “Angel of Love Project,” in which employees volunteered, Coupang delivered personalized gifts to the children at the orphanage. According to the Hualien County Government Social Affairs Bureau, “The cooperation between Coupang and the Good Shepherd Foundation has greatly energized the welfare of children in Taiwan.” “Donating TWD 2 million after the Hualien earthquake and visiting the children to listen to their voices is a commitment to our sustainable business philosophy and social responsibility,” said Ryan Brown, Executive Vice President of Environmental Health and Safety at Coupang.

Coupang’s philanthropic activities in Taiwan are an important example of our business philosophy and social responsibility. We are expanding our rocket delivery and rocket overseas services across Taiwan, and we are also actively engaged in public service activities, organizing various events and products to create new opportunities and value for children. Coupang plans to continue its public service activities not only in Korea, but also across Taiwan, and actively contribute to child welfare and disaster relief in Taiwan.
