Small business owner kicks off Korea’s fresh juice craze on Coupang

Roughly six years ago, Su-jeong Baek learned that her father had bought a small plot of land without her family’s knowledge and planted Aronia berry seeds. It turned out to be a bountiful harvest, leaving them to wonder: “What do we do with all this?”
Su-jeong, who had previously been a flight attendant and office worker with no experience running a company, saw an opportunity. At that time, cold-pressed juice wasn’t very common in Korea, but she decided she would make juice herself.
She joined Coupang Marketplace right away, and it wasn’t long after when she began selling dozens and even hundreds of bottles per day. Through customer word-of-mouth, her company Purepress saw sales leap to 60 thousand dollars per month. As revenues continued to grow, they expanded their plant twice and even established an office for their operations.

“Coupang really raised our brand,” said Su-jeong. “Coupang takes care of just about everything for us, so all we have to do is focus on product development.” She added, “When talking to acquaintances, I just say one thing—‘Join Coupang!’ The whole nation uses it!”
