SEOUL, Oct. 5, 2022 – Coupang today announced that it has signed on as a Champion for Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a campaign that has been led by the U.S. government for the last 19 years.
In 2004, U.S. President George W. Bush and Congress declared October to be Cybersecurity Awareness Month, with the goal of bringing together the U.S. Cybersecurity Infrastructure Agency (CISA) and businesses, government agencies, universities, and nonprofit organizations around the world to promote the importance of digital security and privacy.
Participants in the campaign include Google, TikTok, Costco, Boeing, Adobe, Lenovo, Cisco, and many other global companies, with the objective of increasing awareness among employees on how to protect their privacy from phishing and other cybercrimes under the theme “See Yourself in Cyber.”
During the month of October, Coupang will share an animated video each week with all employees, addressing best practices in data security. The company will also share best practices to combat cyberattacks such as identifying and reporting phishing emails, regularly updating software, and setting up multi-factor authentication (MFA), a method of using a password along with a code sent to the user’s phone/email or other secondary authentication methods to prevent access to accounts with a password alone.
